Lac Fenetre (or Window Lakes) is by far my favourite hike of the last few months in Valais Wallis . We decided to do the hike from the Hospice of Grand St Bernard on the border of Italy because I had a lot of camera equipment and a very sore knee. It looked a little less technical with less of a climb than from the la Fouly Pays du St-Bernard side. But now the Grand St Bernard passe is closed for the winter so best to do it from la Fouly side, especially when the snow comes. There are quite a few ways to access it and the la Fouly/Ferret looks amazing and next week we will try it from there.

The beginning of the climb is pretty atmospheric. It was frosty when we started before the sun rose and hit the ground, so a little slippy in places. But we arrived at the first lake when the sun was just hitting it and we were totally blown away with how stunning it was.

I chose a sunny day with little wind to get the reflection on the lakes. Normally I love clouds, but this time it had to be still, and we were totally rewarded for our efforts!

The view of the Mt Blanc mountain range is totally breathtaking. A must before the winter comes for anyone in the area if you haven’t already done it.

Thanks as always to Jo from La Cucina who looks after me with the most amazing food on a long hike. I’m lucky to have the best caterer in town from my favourite deli looking after me. You are the best!
